This is Engage

Following the removal of the Christopher Columbus statue in 2020, the corner of Columbus Dr and Roosevelt Rd waits for a new future. The site is situated adjacent to an active pedestrian pathway that leads to the lakefront, Field Museum, and Soldier field. This pathway is traversed by thousands of Chicagoans and tourists everyday.

Because of the site's prime location and proximity to family-friendly destinations, we believe it is an ideal site for an interactive children's park that blends science, history, and old-fashioned fun.

Science & History

With the overwhelming presence of non-biodegradable and synthetic materials around us, this new playground explores how the organic material of mycelium may be hold the secret to sustainable construction.

The playground is supported with3D-printed Mycelium columns that support for colorful swings, tunnels, and all sorts of exploration opportunities for children. The use of mycelium will foster a sense for discovery encouraging them to explore an innovative and eco-friendly future.

Discovery Park

The park is envisioned as an 'urban forest' with a playful network of colorful swings and interactive spaces. It aims to transform the currently abandoned Columbus Statue site into a space where children can explore, play, learn and grow.
